OpenCall
Chat, call and share your screen in one browser tab — voice notes, files and group video calls for up to five people, end-to-end encrypted and free.

(A) — Overview
OpenCall is a messaging and calling web app for small teams, friends and family. Direct and group chats carry voice notes, photos, files up to 50 MB, replies, reactions and animated stickers. Any chat can turn into a voice or video call for up to five people, and on desktop you can present a tab, window or screen while your camera stays on. Messages are encrypted on the device before they leave, calls go peer-to-peer over WebRTC, and nothing needs to be installed.

(B) — The challenge
Give small groups one place to message, call and present without asking anyone to install an app, and keep conversations private without making encryption something people have to think about.
(C) — Key decisions
- 01
Everything in one browser tab
Chats, voice notes, calls and screen sharing live in the same web app and work in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, from a phone to a desktop. Chats stay in sync across every device you sign in on.
- 02
Private by default
Every message is encrypted on the device before it leaves, with keys sealed by the user’s password. Contacts can compare security codes, and calls go peer-to-peer over WebRTC.
- 03
Calls that still connect
Group calls are capped at five people so every face stays on screen. A relay takes over when a network blocks direct connections, and presenting never turns your camera off.
(D) — Highlights
- 01Messaging with voice notes, files, reactions and stickers, plus group video calls for up to five
- 02Screen sharing with the camera still on, and a relay for networks that block calls
- 03End-to-end encrypted messages with keys sealed by the user’s password
